Mushroom Market!

We are LIVE at the Chatham Mills Farmers Market right now on this chilly but beautiful Saturday, December 13th 2025! The Italian Oyster Mushrooms are really popping this time of year. We still have some winter annual plants (cilantro, chamomile) that are perfectly happy in the frigid weather. We hope you’ll come out and see Mushroom Market!

Coming Attractions!

It’s a great time for growing mushrooms! Even though we grow them indoors in a controlled environment, the oyster mushrooms can sense when it’s cooler outside and are happier. The tarragon oysters are doing especially well right now, but we should have plenty of blue oyster mushrooms at the Wake Forest Farmers Market this Saturday, Coming Attractions!

BASIL!

The basil is in full flush, and we’ll have plenty of it this week at the Pittsboro Farmers Market on Thursday 5/8 from 3-6pm, and on Saturday 5/10, 8am-12pm at the Wake Forest Farmers Market. Genovese Basil, Rosie Basil, Lemon Basil, Lime Basil and Sweet Thai Basil are all available, and of course we have BASIL!

PLANTS PLANTS PLANTS

Let’s get that garden growing! We have lots of new plant varieties in stock this week, from Apple mint, Borage, and Calendula to Zinnia! (The basil is almost there, just another week or so! Edit: we will have some basil after all … things are really growing fast this time of year!!!) Come out and PLANTS PLANTS PLANTS

Spring Chickens

They’ve got a nice big area to wander around in, but this picture should tell you why we can’t have the chickens totally “free” range. We’ll be at the Pittsboro Farmers Market this Thursday and the Wake Forest Farmers Market on Saturday for this last week of March! We’ll have a few dozen eggs and Spring Chickens

Warmin’ Up!

I know, I know … it’s only the beginning of February. But we have a great start with some spring annuals (cilantro, chamomile, …) and some longer-lived plants that don’t mind being a little chilly (sage, sorrel, lavender). The vegetable starts are coming soon too, brassicas are sprouting .. these will grow fast! This week Warmin’ Up!

UPDATE: Wake Forest *after* the Snow!

The Wake Forest Farmers Market has been move to Sunday 1/12 from 1-3PM due to the snowy/icy roads. We hope you can join us there! The shiitake logs are in suspended animation while the temperatures dive below freezing. The oyster mushrooms are coming along nicely in the tents though … as shown, these are 3 UPDATE: Wake Forest *after* the Snow!

Blewit Season!

What started as a failed attempt to cultivate King Stropharia accidentally became, a couple years later, the perfect environment to attract wild Wood Blewits! * * Sorry, we can’t sell these since they are technically “wild” (not intentionally cultivated) and this species is not approved for sale in NC under my wild mushroom food safety Blewit Season!

Nature, the Ultimate Grower

I can safely say that in 4 years of growing oyster mushrooms, I have never achieved an individual cap of this gargantuan size! The frilly one on the bottom was about the size of my size 11 boot. Come check us out at the Pittsboro Farmer’s Market this Thursday 12/9 for some indoor-cultivated oyster mushrooms Nature, the Ultimate Grower

Thanksgiving and Beyond!

Big week! We have TWO markets on Wednesday 11/27, the day before Thanksgiving: the Chatham Mills Farmers Market from Noon to 3pm and the Pittsboro Farmers Market from 3-6pm. (Please note that these two markets won’t be open on Thursday and Saturday this week.) Then on Saturday 11/30, we’ll be back at the Wake Forest Thanksgiving and Beyond!
